Raise a glass or two at Guinness facility

by Gabby

Fans of Guinness beer don’t have to catch a plane to Ireland to tour one of their facilities. Instead head to Halethorpe, Maryland — about 10 minutes outside of Baltimore— to visit the only Guinness location in the United States.

While Guinness beer is sold in more than 150 countries, the U.S. is among the top five highest-selling countries.

A sister facility to the original location in Dublin, the Maryland-based Guinness Open Gate Brewery welcomes visitors for guided tours, tastings and a pint or two.

The taproom features a rotating selection of Guinness gems. Some are classics, such as the original draught stout, which dates back to 1759 and features four iconic ingredients — water, yeast, barley (malted and roasted) and hops. Others are local favorites, such as the Baltimore blonde.

The site is home to Guinness’ experimental beers, so go with an open palette. The tap list changes every Thursday and you can check out social media channels to see what’s available for your visit.

Before you head out to the Maryland site, know that the brewery does not take reservations and all areas are open on a first come, first served basis.

You may book tours and classes up to 45 days in advance.

All ages are welcome inside, but only those 21 and older may purchase beer. Only service animals are permitted onsite.
